Taproot Earth’s Just Transition Lawyering Network, in partnership with the North Carolina Central Law School Social Justice and Racial Equity Institute, the University of North Carolina School of Law Center for Civil Rights, and Duke University School of Law Environmental Law and Policy Clinic, is excited to share a Save the Date for a Summit on Climate and Environmental Justice, Racism, and the Law onNovember 16-17 in Durham, North Carolina. 

This will be a space for frontline advocates, lawyers, and scholars–particularly those working on climate, environmental, energy, water, and land justice–to come together, share information, engage in political and legal education, build consensus around law and organizing strategies, and advance just solutions rooted in Civil Rights and Black Liberation.

This is a critical time: In 2023, climate and environmental justice advocates face a dynamic set of legal circumstances. We have mobilized to advance stronger climate and environmental justice laws and policies across the United States, with many designed to dismantle harms rooted in systemic racism. At the same time, an escalating nationwide backlash threatens any advancements on racial justice and ending discrimination. We want to build across movements and emerge ready to meet the moment.
